On any of the Irish mobile “broadband” networks.
Alcatel-Lucent has announced the WNG which stands for “Wireless network Guardian”.
According to Alcatel-Lucent: “The Alcatel-Lucent 9900 Wireless Network Guardian (WNG), generally available March 10, 2008, provides 3G, 4G, and WiMAX wireless networks operators with the granularity and real-time alarms they need to effectively address network congestion and optimize the delivery of IP-based services.
Invented by Bell Labs and incubated in its Alcatel-Lucent Ventures organization, the 9900 WNG is unique in the industry in providing a single solution for monitoring how IP data traffic and behaviors impact the network at its many layers including: RF airtime; channels on a base station; backhaul bandwidth; and network signaling – all in real time. This translates into greater satisfaction for the end user and optimized business models and network operations for the carrier.”
.
This could provide some great insight on how well those 3G & 4G service are delivered to the end-users, what the network load generated is and if they really warrant the ridiculously high fees charged…
